Soeur Monique Boulé, MSC

Sr. Monique Boulé was born September 1, 1927 to her parents Alcide and Annais Vaillancourt Boulé. Monique and her siblings –five brothers and three sisters—grew up in a loving and faith-filled Catholic family in Lac-Mégantic, Canada.

She entered the Marianites of Holy Cross on February 17, 1948 and made her novitiate in Princeton, New Jersey. She pronounced perpetual profession on September 26, 1953. Monique completed a Nursing Assistant Program in Mont-Laurier, Canada which led to her lifelong ministry of compassionate care for others.

Sr. Monique ministered in Haiti teaching young children and in Lac-Mégantic, Mont-Laurier, and Magog, Canada as a nursing assistant in hospitals. She maintained a prayer apostolate of visiting the sick in the hospital and in their homes. Her compassionate care for the sick often provided a strong presence for many who were experiencing extreme suffering.

A prayerful woman of compassion, Monique expressed in her “End of Life Prayer” her great love for her Marianite congregation, community life, the Church, and the suffering:

I thank God for having called me to live near him in community. I ask
forgiveness of my sisters for any hurt that I caused them. I thank them
for their affection, attention, and care for me. Thank you to everyone
who made me good spiritually. I prayed, I pray and I will pray until the
last day of my life for the Lord to send many strong vocations to our
Congregation, especially to our province of Canada. May the priestly
and religious vocations in the Church grow and flourish in our Country
to renew Christianity. I offer my current small sufferings and those to
come for those who are sad and suffering on Earth!

Sr. Monique’s last years were spent at Village Harmonie Health Care Center in Lac-Mégantic, Canada where she continued to share her prayerful presence and wonderful sense of humor with all who entered her life. She died peacefully in her sleep on October 18, 2018 at Village Harmonie.
